Message from Mayor and Town Council
On;behalf;of;Council;and;the;Town;of Okotoks;I;would;like;to;congratulate;Okotoks Living;magazine;and;Source;Media;Group
on;the;enormous;success;of;their;premiere;issue!
As;you;enjoy;this;magazine,;you;will;be;inspired
by;Okotoks;and;embrace;all;that;we;strive;for;in
making;this;progressive;community;a;fulfilling;and
remarkable;place;to;live,;work,;and;play!
Over;the;past;few;months,;the;Town;has
commenced;work;on;many;initiatives;;some;of
the;highlights;include;the;32nd;Street;road;re-
alignment;and;Off-Leash;Dog;Park.
The;32nd;Street;Bridge;has;undergone;preliminary
engineering;processes;and;the;current;focus;is;on
permit;approvals.;Funding;of;$700,000;from;the
Municipal;Sustainability;Initiative;(MSI);through
the;Provincial;Government;has;been;applied;for.
The;Town;is;awaiting;approval;from;the;Federal
Government’s;Infrastructure;Canada.
The;Off-Leash;Dog;Park,;officially;opened;in;July,
has;been;very;well;received;and;utilized;by;Okotoks
residents.;The;purpose;of;this;park;is;to;provide;a

fenced-in,;leash-free;dog;park;where;well-behaved
canine;companions;can;exercise;and;play;in;a;clean,
safe;environment;without;endangering;themselves
or;disturbing;people,;property;or;wildlife.
Throughout;the;summer,;our;active;community
utilized;many;outdoor;amenities;such;as;the;pathway
system;and;Seaman;Stadium.;As;summer;comes
to;a;close,;there;are;many;fall;activities;to;look
forward;to;in;our;community.;From;September;4-7,
we;encourage;residents;to;check;out;the;Okotoks;Pro
Rodeo,;Country;Fair,;Chili;Cook-off;and;Sheep;River
Road;Race.;And,;check;out;some;exciting;hockey
action;with;the;Okotoks;Oilers;&;Bisons.
As;we;begin;the;school;year,;we;also;anticipate
new;Town;sustainability;initiatives.;The;Town;now
has;available;an;optional;curbside;collection;service
for;yard;waste;called;Cut;n’;Call.;This;has;been
implemented;to;reduce;or;eliminate;yard;waste
such;as;lawn;clippings,;plant;material;and;leaves
from;garbage;collection;and;to;divert;them;to;the
regional;compost;facility;at;the;landfill.
This;fall,;the;garbage;limit;changes;to;two;units
per;household;per;week.;A;new;optional;curbside
recycling;pick;up;service,;called;Curb;It,;for;single
family;homes;will;also;be;offered.;This;is;designed
to;reduce;the;amount;of;valuable;materials;in
our;refuse;stream,;prolong;the;life;of;our;regional
landfill,;and;reduce;our;environmental;footprint.
For;those;that;would;prefer;to;deliver;their
recyclables,;the;Recycling;Centre;and;drop-off;bins
at;the;Wal-Mart;parking;lot;will;continue;to;be
available.;Those;using;a;private;recycling;company
for;curbside;pickup;are;welcome;to;continue;with
that;service.
